A lot of change is happening in HBO’s favorite emergency department.
Star Shabana Azeez revealed that her character, medical student Victoria Javadi, will not be back — at least not in the same capacity — in The Pitt season 3, which is currently in production.
“I can say that I’m not in the ER this season,” Azeez told Bustle. “I’ve done my ER rotation, so I’m doing my psychiatry rotation.”
“It’s a very different vibe for me,” she said of what’s to come for her character. “I’m scared and nervous. But it’s an honor to be able to show that part of medicine.”

Azeez’s news comes after costar Supriya Ganesh exited the series following season 2. PEOPLE confirmed in April that Ganesh, 28, would not return as Dr. Samira Mohan in season 3, which was the result of a creative decision regarding her storyline.
Dr. Mohan was in the midst of her residency and debating what her future will look like throughout season 2, so a change in hospitals would be a likely story for Dr. Mohan.
Ganesh told PEOPLE in May that she was “almost surprised by the love” that poured in from fans of the show amid news of her exit.
“I was like, oh my gosh, I can’t believe this many people feel so strongly about this character, because I feel so strongly about her and I love her,” she said. “I’m just going to miss the fans and I just adore how much they love Samira. I think she’s always going to have a place in their hearts for the reasons that they love her.”
She teased that she has a “secret” new project coming as an explanation for her exit.
“There’s a couple things on the pipeline,” she said. “I’ve got to wait for other people to announce things, I guess. But, yeah, I mean, just so many great opportunities out there that I’m all very excited that everything’s coming across my desk.”

As Noah Wyle previously explained, cast exits are an “inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show.”
“As writers, we’re hard-pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically,” he told Variety. “Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh.”
Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill similarly said that Ganesh’s exit is “sort of the nature of the show,” as he told the outlet, “Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible. So we’re going to turn over our cast.”
The Pitt seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on HBO Max.
