Coronation Street fans ‘calling it’ as they work out Ben Driscoll’s real connection to Weatherfield
Fans of the ITV soap think they have worked out Ben Driscoll’s real connection to Weatherfield following his arrival last year
Coronation Street fans have said they’re ‘calling it’ as they think they have worked out Ben Driscoll’s real connection to Weatherfield following his arrival last year.
Fans will recall seeing the character, played by actor Aaron McCusker, the partner of Eva Price who secretly brought her the Rovers Return before revealing all by returning her to Weatherfield, towards the end of October last year.
Aaron, best known for playing Jamie McGuire in Channel 4’s Shameless, wasn’t alone in joining the cast at the time, as viewers were also introduced to Ben’s mother, and Eva’s ‘mother-in-law from hell’, Maggie Driscoll, played by Pauline McLynn, who dropped the bombshell that she is in fact the owner of the Rovers, with her being the one to bail her son out of his money predicament.
The Driscoll-Price clan, including Ben’s sons and Eva’s daughter, have wasted no time in settling in – and ruffling feathers along the way. Viewers have seen them already involved in a number of dramas, some that even Ben and Eva have no idea about with Megan Walsh grooming his teenage son, Will.
However, it seems the Driscolls need to brace themselves for even more chaos, with Aaron teasing that the family will be delivered some life-changing news in the very near future.
“There’s a big bombshell that’s about to be dropped that is going to rock us all to our core,” the soap star told Inside Soap. “It has the potential to bring us all closer together or the potential to tear us completely apart. That’s all I can say, and you’ll have to wait, but it’ll be coming very soon…”
But in the meantime, some Corrie fans have started to think that Ben had a connection on the cobbles long before his appearance alongside Eva. In recent scenes, Ben has been seen striking up a chatty relationship with Steve McDonald, with the pair sharing stories on their Irish roots and connections, with Ben from Northern Ireland, the same place Steve’s father, Jim McDonald, lives.
And with Steve set to receive some news about Jim’s ill health in upcoming scenes, some Corrie fans think that his connection to Ben could run deeper that just being neighbours. @coll1986 said: “I’m calling it now, Steve and Ben are brothers, Maggie had an affair with Jim McDonald #Corrie #coronationstreet.” @BBlowave replied: “Steve literally never mentions his Irishness but suddenly has. I think you’re right.”
@TheGreenLeopard commented: “#Corrie #coronationstreet So Steve visits his dying father Jim McDonald in hospital & just happens to have Ben with him? Two half brothers maybe? I think Maggie’s affair was with (Jim so it was )years ago. Wonder if Jim has a deathbed confession?” @Xynthymr added: “Calling it now – Maggie Driscoll had an affair with Jim McDonald in Northern Ireland in the 1980s, and Jim is secretly the father of Ben’s brother, Finlay… Or maybe father of Ben. Steve McDonald has a secret half-brother. #CoronationStreet #Corrie @itvcorrie.”
The discussion is also being had over on Reddit. Purple-Reading4472 said: “They’re going to be brothers aren’t they. Jim’s going to be both their dad.” TheMGD replied: “Glad i’m not the only one who thought this.” Northernplace89 added: “Yep can see it a mile off.”
