THE UNBELIEVABLE GOODBYE TO NICK NEWMAN: GENOA CITY IN M.O.U.R.N.I.N.G OR A MASTERFUL LIE?

The April 15 episode of The Young and the Restless won’t be soon forgotten: It’s the one in which we learned that Joshua Morrow’s Nick Newman had fatally overdosed. Or should we say “It’s the one in which we were told that Nick had died”? ’Cause not for a nanosecond do we believe that the show would really kill off Victor and Nikki’s only son together.

What Happened?

After discovering in Wednesday’s episode (recapped here) that Riza’s star player is Adam, Matt suggested a visit to Spider’s web, so to speak. There, the villain informed Adam and Chelsea that Nick had OD’d and passed away.

But this is Matt that we’re talking about; of course he’s lying, just doing what he loves most and trying to rattle the Newmans’ cages. No way would the soap take out Nick off screen, not after Morrow has rocked the role for more than 30 years.

What the Actor Has Said

For his part, Morrow has expressed zero desire to leave the soap to become a movie star or something. “I couldn’t want to be famous less,” he’s told Soaps.com, “and for all intents and purposes, I’m not. Nobody cares what I do in this town. There are far, far more people who are way more famous and interesting, so I can live my life and not have to worry about that.

“So this is an incredible way to provide for my family, to make a great living and to be in a job that is very fulfilling that lets me work with incredible people… ” he continued. “It’s really been just like the Powerball of jobs as far as I’m concerned.” (Full interview here.)

That leaves one question: How will Nick get out of the mess that he’s in?!? Or should the character actually be rubbed out? Here’s the case for the unthinkable.
