Coronation Street fans say ‘utterly heartbreaking’ after realising Billy Mayhew death meaning
The vicar was confirmed as the victim of a multi-vehicle pile-up involving those from Corrie and Emmerdale

Coronation Street fans have said it is ‘utterly heartbreaking’ as they realised what Billy Mayhew’s death means for Summer Spellman as she prepares for life without her guardian alongside her.
The vicar, played by Daniel Brocklebank, was confirmed as the victim of a multi-vehicle pile-up that was at the centre of a dramatic crossover between Corrie and fellow ITV soap Emmerdale, dubbed Corriedale.
Those who watched the special crossover episode saw the crash was caused by Emmerdale killer John Sugden and Corrie villain Becky Swain as the pair collided while driving on a country road, sealing the exit storyline of vicar Billy Mayhew, who died after being trapped in a minibus which went up in flames.
The dramatic episode started with DS Lisa Swain answering a call from Carla Connor, before demanding that Becky pull over. However, during the argument, they collided with John, who was being held at gunpoint by Aaron Dingle, who told him to turn himself in to the police.
Instead, John removed his hands from the wheel. Moments later, a minivan taking Coronation Street residents, including David and Shona Platt, Tracy Barlow and Asha Alahan, back home from Debbie Webster and Ronnie Bailey’s wedding, swerved into the mess, before Mackenzie Boyd and Charity Dingle collided into the pile-on.

As residents pulled themselves out of the minivan, Billy was seen stuck in the driver’s seat and despite Theo Silverton appearing to try to help free him, viewers watched him trap the vicar and escape, before the van went up in flames.
Todd Grimshaw, who had also been in the minibus, called for Billy, while Theo stood and watched in tears as the vehicle was ablaze. It was a few scenes later that Cassie Plummer confirmed that the “driver didn’t make it”. Later, at the hospital, Summer arrived and sobbed as she was taken into Todd’s arms.
And it was at that moment Corrie viewers broke down in tears and made the same heartbreaking realisation. @Georgeroyde said: “Utterly heartbroken for poor Summer. Summer has now lost 3 Dads, a bit cruel don’t you think?”
