“WHAT THE H.E.L.L IS THAT?!”: CORONATION STREET FANS IN UPROAR OVER BIZARRE NEW ADDITION TO ROY’S ROLLS

Coronation Street fans were left perplexed after spotting an unusual item on the menu at Roy’s Rolls.

Owned by fan favourite Roy Cropper (David Neilson), the cafe is a frequently shown location on the ITV soap.

In Monday’s (February 3) episode, viewers got a glimpse of the menu offerings, which included a Cheese Celery sandwich for £2.50.

Taking to TikTok, user MeetMaxineTV was astonished by the sandwich option while sharing a grab from the scene.

The caption read: ‘Right I’m Northern but what the bloody hell is a cheese and celery sandwich and why’s it only £2.50 to dine in?

‘Surely the stringy celery would choke you to death?’

In the comments section, fellow viewers were divided as some confirmed the sandwich does in fact exist, while others admitted it was their first time hearing of it.

One person penned: ‘I had to Google it when I saw it and yep, apparently its a real thing.’

Another said: ‘Oh that takes me back. Used to have a cheese and celery sandwich back in the day!’

While a third remarked: ‘A cheese and celery sandwich is ELITE the M&S one is my absolute go to.’

Although Roy debuted in Coronation Street in 1995, he became the cafe’s owner in 1997.

Meanwhile, it’s not the first time viewers have had something to say about Roy’s Rolls’ prices.

In 2023, viewers were left in shock over the eatery’s whopping hike in prices for certain dishes.

As the country battles a crippling cost of living crisis the effects seem to have rippled over to the fictional Weatherfield, with Roy upping the prices at his café.

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted that the price of pie, chips and mushy peas rose from £2.60 to £5.50, a massive 112 percent increase.

Taking to Twitter, a fan compared pictures of the fictional menu at different points in the year, noting: ‘Inflation is real.

‘Roy Cropper has had to put up the price of Pie, Chips & Mushy Peas by 112% in the last 3 months. #CostOfLivingCrisis #Corrie.’

The image instantly went viral, with The Archbishop of Banterbury Instagram account sharing the tweet and noting: ‘A sad state of affairs’.

Fans were quick to comment, penning: ‘Roys Rolls is now a Gastropub’; ‘£3.75 for a curry is a bargain’; ‘Rip off Britain’; ‘Betty would be turning in her grave….’

Even the official Coronation Street Instagram account got involved, commenting: ‘What can we say? Times are tough and Roy needs to fund his train collection somehow.’

It comes as it was recently announced that a much-loved soap star has quit the famed cobbles after three years.

Claire Sweeney joined the cast in 2023, playing Cassie Plummer – Tyrone Dobbs’ (Alan Halsall) biological mother – but is bowing out after landing a dream role.

The 54-year-old has been cast to play the iconic part of Miss Hannigan in the UK tour of stage musical Annie.

A Coronation Street spokesperson told The Sun: ‘We wish Claire every success playing Miss Hannigan and congratulate her on being offered a role she has long wanted to play.

‘Cassie will be on the cobbles until the summer during which time she will continue to make her presence felt in Weatherfield leading up to a great exit storyline.’
