Coronation Street star confirms ‘two attacks’ during ‘explosive’ Christmas at Rovers
It was previously teased that the cobbles are set to explode with drama, secrets and shocking revelations this Christmas
Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley has hinted that thing won’t be merry and bright at the Rovers Return this Christmas as the festivities will have huge consequences that will run into 2026.
It was previously teased that the cobbles are set to explode with drama, secrets and shocking revelations this Christmas that will leave the residents reeling and the viewers on the edge of their seats.
The Rovers Return will be a huge hub of activity this festive season, thanks to the return of Eva Price, played by Catherine, as the boozer’s new landlady, and her extended family – including her partner Ben Driscoll and his interfering mother, Maggie.
The preview of what’s ahead this Christmas previously told how tensions rise at the Rovers, with secrets and lies aplenty. Viewers iwll see Eva wracked with guilt over a secret of her own and daughter Susie’s innocent wish for a sibling sends her spiralling.
Meanwhile, Maggie’s suspicions are piqued by a hidden letter and a tender moment between Eva and her former flame, Adam Barlow. As Eva confides in Adam, Maggie’s conniving plan to oust Eva begins to unfold, promising a Christmas dinner no one will forget.
With Adam and Alya and Daniel Osbourne and Megan invited, much to Will’s fury, who’s having his own secret relationship with groomer Megan, viewers will be treated to an explosive Christmas Day showdown with shattering consequences, while accusations and revelations mean fists fly.
And as one member of the Driscoll family is thrown out of the pub, a brutal attack on another attendee of the Christmas dinner from hell leaves someone unconscious in the ginnel. Who will it be, who is responsible and what dark secrets will be exposed?
Speaking about what’s ahead, Catherine shared: “It’s boiling point on Christmas Day. Eva and Maggie have always had that sort of relationship where they are going to hurl insults at each other, but most of the time, they laugh it off. But I think, for Maggie, it certainly runs a bit deeper than that in as much that I don’t think anybody would ever quite be good enough for her golden boy.
“Maggie’s just constantly is hurling things at Eva, and she hurls something really big at Eva on Christmas Day, and everything just kind of explodes. So, it was great fun to play.”
Addressing the attack on Christmas Day, Catherine spoke of two incidents, with one leaving a resident for dead, and the other seemingly Maggie’s determination to ruin Eva.
“It’s a big shock,” the soap star said of the attack. “Christmas is supposed to be that time where seemingly everyone is supposed to get on, you hang out with friends and family, and everything’s supposed to be lovely, but it’s not like that in Weatherfield on Christmas Day! So, yeah, it’s a big shock…there are two attacks connected to the Driscoll family, it isn’t exactly how any of them envisaged their first Christmas in the Rovers.”
While things look set to be difficult for Eva, Catherine couldn’t have been happier to be involved in the drama. Asked about being at the centre of the Christmas drama, she said: “Thrilled, I love the soaps at Christmas. You’ve got to tune in on Christmas Day, haven’t you?
“You know that it’s going to be pretty explosive. And so, I was just absolutely chuffed to bits that they wanted to run that storyline for Christmas Day, and we had a lot of fun doing the storyline. I’m obsessed with Christmas, so it was nice to start Christmas super early. And I’ve got to say as well, Aaron [McCusker] and Pauline [McLynne] are just absolutely outstanding in their performances on Christmas Day. They really are. So it was a real treat.”
