Y&R LEAK: A GHOST FROM THE PAST RETURNS TO DESTROY A FAN-FAVORITE ROMANCE?!

On Thursday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, Holden spoke about his childhood neighbor, Wendy Applebaum. He mentioned that his mother, Stephanie, always thought Holden would have a future with Wendy. Alas, Wendy moved away. Are the Y&R writers giving us a sign that she may appear in Genoa City?

It felt like The Young and the Restless writers dropped anvils on Thursday’s episode during Holden’s (Nathan Owens) lunch with Claire (Hayley Erin). He mentioned that his mother, Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox), has been wanting him to get married. She assumed he would marry his childhood neighbor — the girl next door, Wendy Applebaum. He recalled that Stephanie tried to facilitate a relationship between him and Wendy by giving him something to bring to Mrs. Applebaum whenever Wendy played outside. Alas, he never had the chance to romance Wendy, since she moved away when they were in second grade.

Ordinarily, this might simply sound like a sweet but random story from Holden’s childhood. But since the Y&R writers gave us his neighbor’s first and last name, and Holden and Claire spent several minutes discussing her, could that be a foreshadowing that Wendy may arrive in Genoa City soon?

It speaks volumes that she moved away when she and Holden were children, and they never saw each other again. What if Wendy grew up to be a beautiful woman, the type who would stop traffic (as the saying goes)? We can picture her walking into Society or Crimson Lights one day while Holden is there. We’re sure she would take his breath away!

Could we be headed for a Holden/Claire/Wendy triangle?

Maybe we’re jumping the gun, but might we be headed for a triangle with Holden, Claire, and Wendy? If Wendy is the next person to arrive in GC, then that’s a possibility! He’s been interested in Claire for about a year now, so she represents his present. They’ve spent time together in both GC and Los Angeles.

Wendy represents his past. Even though Wendy and Holden were children when they knew each other, they probably share some significant memories from their school days and their old neighborhood. Perhaps she is now a successful doctor, businesswoman, or lawyer. Genoa City could use a doctor, as we don’t see Dr. Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) very often anymore.

Wendy’s arrival in GC would push Holden’s love life in a brand-new direction. If things don’t work out between him and Claire, he could still have Wendy as a potential love interest.

Will Stephanie bring Wendy to Genoa City?

Stephanie sure was an advocate for a Holden/Wendy love match, so much so that she tried to get them together when they were kids. From what we’ve seen of Stephanie so far, she is assertive and direct. She isn’t afraid to tell Holden exactly what she thinks, as we saw when she met Audra (Zuleyka Silver). Stephanie does not like Audra, and most of the GC residents feel the same way!

Since Stephanie is assertive and would like to see Holden happily married, we could picture her bringing Wendy to GC. That would be a shock for him, coming face-to-face with Wendy after all these years. Then, we could imagine Claire walking into the room and getting an eyeful of Holden’s now grown-up and beautiful childhood neighbor. Oh, the soapy drama that would bring!

The storyline of the childhood girl-next-door has been done to death in TV shows and movies, but we haven’t seen it done yet with Holden. So, it might be a fun storyline for the Y&R writers to explore!
