David Walliams has admitted that he and his frequent collaborator and close friend, Sheridan Smith, have a lighthearted “marriage pact” — a playful agreement they made about tying the knot later in life. The Britain’s Got Talent judge revealed the humorous pact during an appearance on Lorraine, where he also shared details about their ongoing professional collaboration.
David, 54, and Sheridan, 45, have worked together on multiple projects in the past, including Mr Stink, Ratburger, and Jack and the Beanstalk: After Ever After. Their next big screen reunion will be in the TV adaptation of David’s children’s novel Gangsta Granny Strikes Again!.
While chatting with host Lorraine Kelly on ITV’s Lorraine on Wednesday, David shared their fun dynamic on set, explaining, “We have a lot of fun together.” Lorraine, noting their strong on-screen chemistry, joked that she could picture them as a married couple, to which David responded with a laugh: “We do talk about getting married when we’re older. When we’ve exhausted all other opportunities. Do you know what I mean? If we’re still single, aged 90, we will get married to each other.”
Despite the joke, fans are left wondering how much of David’s playful admission holds weight.
Beyond their fun banter, Sheridan has been busy with some serious roles recently. Earlier this year, Sky announced that she would be leading their new comedy series Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything. In the show, Sheridan plays the titular character, Rosie Molloy, a self-confessed mess who tries and fails to navigate modern life. The series follows her journey to sobriety, as she attempts to “give up everything” — from smoking and alcohol to even her beloved Terry’s Chocolate Oranges.
The synopsis for Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything reveals that after a life-altering incident at her brother’s wedding, Rosie wakes up in hospital and decides to make a dramatic change to her life. However, the fear of losing herself in the process of giving up her addictions looms large as she tries to rebuild her career, friendships, and relationships.
Sheridan’s recent work reflects a more serious side of her acting career. She starred in the BBC’s Four Lives, a harrowing drama about four gay men murdered by Stephen Port, and ITV’s No Return, a gripping series that follows a family whose holiday to Turkey turns into a nightmare after their 16-year-old son is arrested.
It’s clear that Sheridan Smith’s talents extend far beyond lighthearted collaborations with David Walliams, but their friendship remains one of the most entertaining aspects of her career. Could their “marriage pact” one day become a reality? Only time will tell!
