Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set to be hit by more schedule changes this evening due to the FIFA World Cup. Both soaps have previously been forced to amend their broadcast times due to the football this month, which will continue tonight.
ITV will be airing the Norway v France match from 7pm, coverage of which will continue throughout most of the evening.
As such, the broadcaster has already made up for the soap loss with hour-long episodes last night, which aired from 8pm through to 10pm.
Coverage of the World Cup is continuing throughout the weekend, and while it hasn’t been confirmed when Corrie and Emmerdale will return, it appears that Tuesday next week is most likely.
The ITV shows aren’t the only soaps that have been affected by schedule changes, with EastEnders shifting temporarily to BBC Two earlier this week amid the breaking news of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation.
In other news, Corrie star Samia Longchambon has spoken to Digital Spy and teased a “bumpy ride” coming for Maria Connor and husband Gary Windass amid the latter’s involvement in Theo Silverton’s demise.
“I am still in shock,” she admitted of the killer reveal. “I watched it with my family because I’d not seen it. Obviously I was there, so I kind of knew what was happening, but it was nice to see it all edited and put together.”
She added: “I guess that [Monday’s episode was] the start of so many twists and turns you are going to see over the [coming] weeks and months. I think you are going to see quite a bumpy ride for Gary and Maria.”
