Coronation Street has cast a returning star in a new role as a dramatic betrayal awaits George Shuttleworth when Christina Boyd reveals she’s still in contact with her estranged husband. Actor Joe Osborne, who also starred on Peaky Blinders and Hollyoaks, is set to make a comeback to the cobbles after last appearing in Weatherfield as slimy businessman Jason Waterford in 2023.
At the time, Jason was attempting to buy The Rovers off then-landlady Jenny Connor, while also getting roped into an inside trading scandal with Ronnie Bailey.
But Jason wasn’t Osborne’s first visit to Weatherfield as the actor previously played the role of Rod Kempson in 2017.
In an upcoming storyline, Osborne is reportedly set to play a brand new character as the soap unearths the secrets that Christina is keeping from her partner George.
The Sun reports that Osborne has been cast as Lenny, Christina’s estranged husband who she has been meeting behind George’s back over the past few months.
The funeral parlor owner is set to discover Christina’s deception the hard way when his sister Glenda, who’s concerned about his relationship, does some digging.
“There’s a lot of love for Christina these days, and those close to her hope that she’s being genuine with George,” our Corrie insider explained. “But her shifty actions have caused suspicion, and when Glenda goes through her handbag, she gets a clue that changes everything!”
Thanks to Glenda’s detective work, George follows Christina to the precinct, where he sees her meeting up with another man. As he confronts her demanding answers, she doesn’t try and lie to cover her tracks, but comes clean about having kept things from him.
George advises her that honesty is the best policy moving forward, but Christina dreads the consequences. Is she cheating on him or is she hiding something else entirely?
