Coronation Street fans say ‘it makes me sick’ after latest twist in Megan grooming plot
Coronation Street viewers were left feeling sick after the latest twist in Megan’s grooming plot as she continued her inappropriate relationship with teenager Will Driscoll on the ITV soap
Coronation Street‘s Megan Walsh is seemingly one step closer to being caught out in her affair with Will Driscoll. The teacher, played by Beth Nixon, has been having an illicit affair with teenager Will on the world’s longest-running TV soap for months now, and has even fallen pregnant by him.
The sports coach has struck up a relationship with fellow teacher Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), the son of Ken Barlow, to cover her tracks but Will has become increasingly incensed by this and resorted to attacking him on Christmas Day. Last week, Daniel worked out that Will was the one who had attacked him but Megan has been trying her best to throw him off the scent, aware that it could blow her secret wide open..
On Tuesday’s episode of the Manchester-based serial, Megan had talked Daniel into forgetting the whole thing and called round to the Rovers with him in tow, supposedly to arrange Will’s next running competition. Having made Daniel apologise to Will, the teenager had managed to get stepmother Eva (Catherine Tyldesley) and dad Ben into giving him permission to stay at a friend’s house that evening, and Eva even handed him some cash for a takeaway.
In actual fact, Leanne Battersby, Megan’s new flatmate, had planned to go away for the evening and Megan told Daniel she had work to do – all so she could have Will round that night.
But viewers will know that Will and Megan’s affair has already been sussed by Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), who is in the year below Will at school. He questioned his schoolmate once again to no avail, so took matters into his own hands.
Having already been threatened by Megan to stay away, Sam noticed Will sneaking into Megan’s flat. When Will said he was only stopping a short while to arrange a sports meeting, Sam cannily decided to record the time he was there, watching them emerge after more than an hour.
In the flat, Megan become stressed about having Will over and decided to book a hotel room for them both, and was freaked out when she saw Sam watching.
She exclaimed: “Has he gone now? Sam! He’s everywhere!” but Will said: “Sam is not as smart as he thinks he is, right? We’re fine, come on,” and they drove off into the night.
Viewers were quick to react to the latest develpment in the controversial storyline, with one writing on X: “Megan makes me sick. Don’t apologise to him Daniel ffs, someone catch Megan and Will ffs!”
Another asked: “Right someone help me out here, didnt Megan and Daniel split up not long ago? Did I dream this?” but another replied: “Think they did split briefly, then got back together a couple of weeks ago. I don’t think you dreamt it!”
A third said: “Megan is a horrific character but nobody can deny that the actress who plays has impeccable skin. I need to know her secrets,” and a fourth joked: “Considering [Will’s grandmother] Maggie markets herself as Ireland’s answer to Jessica Fletcher how has she not put two and two together about Will and Megan.”
Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks recently explained that Sam’s part in the controversial grooming plot, which has seen Megan even take up a relationship with fellow teacher and Ken Barlow’s son Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) in a bid to cover her tracks, will lead to Megan going to even greater lengths to keep things a secret, all at the schoolboy’s expense.
She said: “It’s a very important story to tell and we want to be as truthful as possible. As part of that story Sam will end up getting embroiled in it all.
“Sam is semi-related to the pub family and he potentially gets wind that something’s amiss. We will see the lengths that Megan will go to manipulate Sam into keeping quiet. It’ll be massively detrimental to Sam’s wellbeing.”
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
