LAUREN Conrad has broken down in tears after coming face-to-face with her nemesis, Kristin Cavallari, in a trailer for the upcoming Laguna Beach reunion special.
The pair were notoriously enemies on the MTV reality series, which premiered in September 2004 and followed the then-teenagers as they navigated friendships and dating, and they appear to rehash their feud in the April 10 reunion.
On Tuesday, several cast members shared a preview on social media of the Roku Channel special, which showed Lauren and Kristin discussing their fallout for the first time on camera.
“We have never had a conversation on camera just the two of us,” Kristin said during a quiet moment between the duo sitting by a fire pit.
“You ready?” the Very Cavallari star asked, to which Lauren quickly responded, “No.”
Kristin, a junior at Laguna Beach High School during the show’s first season, shared a particular memory of her shading Lauren, a senior, ahead of their prom.
“They said, ‘Who do you think is gonna be prom queen,’ and I said, ‘I don’t know, I don’t care, as long as it’s not Lauren Conrad,’” Kristin recalled to her former classmates, who appeared to cringe at the harsh remark.
“We did not like each other,” Lauren confirmed to Kristin.
Lauren was later seen wiping tears from her eyes, as were several of her co-stars, though it’s unclear what prompted them to get emotional.
She and Kristin were joined onstage by Stephen Colletti, Talan Torriero, Dieter Schmitz, Christina Schuller, Trey Phillips, Jessica Smith, Alex Hooser, and the host of the special, Casey Wilson.
Lo Bosworth and Morgan Smith [née Olsen], who live on the East Coast, participated via a video call.
Morgan previously addressed their absence, saying they would join virtually, after fans expressed fury over their exclusion from a promotional photo
In September, it was announced that the Laguna Beach cast would be reuniting for a two-hour special, 20 years after graduating from their Southern California high school and going their separate ways.
“Laguna Beach wasn’t just a television series; it defined a generation of pop culture and paved the way for the reality genre as we know it,” Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Roku Originals, Roku Media, said in a statement.
“Reuniting this cast two decades later is a dream, and we are delighted to give streamers a front-row seat to the nostalgia.”
Lauren, Kristin, and Stephen serve as executive producers of the reunion.
After gaining notoriety on Laguna Beach, Lauren starred in the spin-off, The Hills, alongside Heidi and Spencer Pratt, Audrina Patridge, and Brody Jenner.
Kristin joined the show in May 2009, replacing Lauren, who left to pursue other opportunities, and has since maintained her privacy out of the spotlight.
She resurfaced in November 2022 to appear on an episode of the Laguna Beach rewatch podcast, Back to the Beach with Kristin and Stephen, where she admitted that she became “Team Kristin” upon rewatching the show.
Lauren also clarified that the love triangle between herself, Kristin, and Stephen, which was primarily the source of her tension with Kristin, was largely edited by production for drama.
