Teddi Mellencamp shared an update amid her battle with stage-four cancer as the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum admitted she was âreally scared.â
Four years ago, Teddi was diagnosed with melanoma. Last year, doctors had to remove multiple tumors in her brain. A few months later, she shared that the melanoma had advanced to stage four. Throughout her journey, sheâs consistently had immunotherapy treatment.
In a series of recent Instagram videos, Teddi shared that she was getting an MRI and a CAT scan. The first few videos were taken before Teddi knew the results.
âSo ever since I was diagnosed with stage four cancer, I get immunotherapy monthly, and I was getting CAT scans and MRIs monthly,â she said. âBut this past time, they decided theyâre going to wait three to four months in between the test. This has created such a nervous, raging anxiety inside of me. ⊠I just keep crying.â
âI wanna be like those people that just say theyâre positive all the time, but Iâm really scared,â Teddi continued, choking up. âItâs also like really lonely, guys. And Iâve just hit that point where Iâm just like exhausted.â
She then shared a video of her doctor explaining the results.
âThe scans show no evidence of tumor in your body,â said the doctor. âWhen you came, you had tumors in your brain and in your lungs. We donât see those now. Thereâs evidence that youâve had treatment, and thereâs evidence that the immunotherapy has helped you. What does that mean? Youâve had a complete response to therapy.â
âDoes that mean youâre in remission? Yes, remission is a very, you know, nebulous word. If people asked me to tell them how I would speak to your benefit, I would say the following: Youâve had the best outcome we could hope for,â he said. âWeâre dealing with some of the side effects of the therapy that youâve had. As we move forward, the longer that you remain in this state, the better it is for you. And the data that we have is, at three years, if there is no progression, nothing new, at three years, you have a greater than 95% chance.â
Teddi then reminded her followers to âget your skin checks.â Though sheâll still be getting immunotherapy, Teddi said sheâll now try to view the treatment as âmy friend who saved my life.â
